Land Rover Water Pump Replacement: When is it Necessary?

Here are the signs to look out for to determine if it is time to replace your Land Rover's water pump:

Leaking Coolant

The water pump is under the Land Rover hood, located under the timing belt. So if the water pump is leaking coolant, you will see traces of it on the timing belt, near it and around it. Leaks can also cause the timing belt to get loose or even snap, resulting in other engine issues.

Water Pump Noises

Failing water pumps will often make high-pitched whining sounds, which come from the front of the Land Rover's motor. This sound means that the water pump pulley has come loose, or the bearings inside it are beginning to fail and wear out. The pump must be repaired or else the bearings will wear down, which means the water pump can no longer be fixed and will need a total replacement.

Radiator is Steaming

If steam comes from the radiator while you are driving or stopping, this means that it is not getting the water it needs to function, so the water pump is not functioning properly and needs to be checked.
